Longans / Lamyai

LONGAAN

The longan berries are the even tastier sisters of the lychee. She is native to southern China but is now grown throughout Southeast Asia. The translucent flesh is deliciously sweet, with a vague hint of 'cookie spice smell' in the distance. The fruit has a stiff, easy to peel thin skin and the same kind of smooth kernel as the lychee.

Did you know that..

Longanberries do not keep very long. If you buy them you should actually eat them within 2 to 3 days, otherwise taste loss will occur. You eat them as a snack, in a fruit salad or for dessert. Nothing cosier than an Asian dinner ending with a large bowl of longanberries, where anyone can eat them!
